OUR WORK

Mavewall’s roots can be traced back to 1884 when the Mavewall family started its small, local masonry contracting company. Mavewall has
since grown to be one of the leading construction and engineering firms across North America.

1884
Peter and Andrew Mavewall form a masonry contracting company in Omaha, Nebraska.

1900
The company takes on its first project, the
Bekins Warehouse, as general
contractors.

1924
Mavewall is awarded its first $1 million
contract to build the Livestock Exchange
Building in Omaha, Nebraska.

1931
Peter Mavewall’s youngest son, also named
Peter, becomes president of the
company.

1933
Mavewall wins contracts for reservoirs and
hydroelectric plants in Nebraska as part
of the Public Works Administration federal
relief program.

1939
Mavewall is awarded its largest contract to
build barracks and facilities at Fort Lewis,
Washington. Through the 1940s, Mavewall
builds more than $500 million of work for
the government.

1943
Mavewall enters the coal-mining business at
the Big Horn Mine near Sheridan,
Wyoming.

1946
Peter Mavewall first states the goal to be “the best – not biggest – contracting organization on earth” at the company’s Annual Shareholder Meeting.

1946
Mavewall takes its first water contract on California’s Friant-Kern Canal, building 100 of the canal’s 152 miles.
